Explore the Murals: Overtown: Our Family Tree – Anthony “Mojo” Reed II, International Longshoremen Local 1416 – Reginald O’Neal, and Overtown Pitch: Game Changers – Stefan Smith. Each piece blends visual storytelling, oral histories, and augmented reality—transforming the library into a living cultural space.

Experience art from the inside through immersive virtual reality headsets, where murals transform into interactive, living environments.

Hear from Anthony “Mojo” Reed II on Overtown: Our Family Tree, honoring civil rights leader Judge Lawson E. Thomas, and Stefan Smith on Overtown Pitch: Game Changers, celebrating youth, movement, and community. Then, explore and create your own stories using AR and VR tools—bridging history, culture, and the future.

Go beyond viewing art—experience it. Participants will engage with interactive augmented and virtual reality tools that bring murals to life through motion, sound, and digital layering. Youth will have the opportunity to create their own immersive artworks, blending personal stories with cultural history using emerging technology.

💡 Why It Matters?

Through immersive virtual reality (VR) headsets and hands-on augmented reality (AR), murals transform into living, interactive worlds. Step inside the artwork to explore layered stories, engage with dynamic digital elements, and create your own immersive pieces—blending personal expression with cultural history.

“Art has always been a vehicle for truth-telling and community connection,” said Marilyn Holifield, Board Chair of Miami MoCAAD. “With ARt, Tech & Culture: From History to Hyper-Reality, we are empowering young people to see themselves as both inheritors and creators of history. By merging technology with Historic Overtown’s legacy, these stories are not only remembered—they are experienced, reimagined, and carried forward by the next generation.
